Last night the school board met to discuss a number of different items. At 5:30 they began with the discussion regarding budget. This portion of the meeting was not live streamed.
The special session was live streamed and began at 6:30. There was discussion around the search for a new superintendent. The board considered two options. The first is considered the best practice, and it is an interim search. This will allow for the school district to harness a large pool of high-quality candidates. This was the decision of the board.
In addition to the superintendent search, the board discussed whether or not to go to special election. The special election and discussion around the different district maps is available on the district YouTube channel.
After discussion, it was determined that yes, a special election will be held on April 11. This election will be for voters to decide the issue of Director districts versus at large representatives. Additionally, voters will have the opportunity to select candidates to fill the two board vacancies left by the sudden resignations of Director Wills, and Director Bejarno.
Constituents will need to request absentee ballots if they are unable to vote on April 11.
There will not be sufficient time in order to collect the signatures and work in collaboration with the Polk county auditor in order to have an early polling location. That means constituents will need to request absentee ballots if they are unable to vote on April 11.
According to the office of elections, residents should use the requests from the website - Polk County DCG voters will submit to 120 2nd Ave, Des Moines, IA 50309, Dallas County DCG voters will submit to their office in Adel.
Make sure people select "Special" and put Dallas Center Grimes 4/11/23 or something similar to that. Important to select special and no other box.
All yellow shaded boxes on the form must be filled out. Voter ID should be your Iowa Drivers License. You are able to collect and deliver requests to their office. They are open weekdays 8 am - 5 pm.
